Feeling nostalgic?

Wallow in some woe-is-me-the-past-is-gone with New Balance's rerelease of this 1979 gem, the original 420. Yes, it still has the same structure and moody blue color that you runners remember. No, thankfully it does not have the same cushion.

At $60 a pair, the price is practically a throwback, too. Get it at most South Florida Foot Locker stores.

The prep squad

In the upside-down world of South Florida, to be preppy is often to be counted as a maverick.

Cape Madras will help you look like you belong in Martha's Vineyard more than Miami Beach. Its patchwork Madras pieces, in limited styles (that, too, is just so New England) are the real deal.

Pictured are ladies bermudas in Westwood (blue) and Crescent (pink), $90, at CapeMadras.com. Or, in Miami, at Bermuda Bay Clothing, 401 Biscayne Blvd., 305 374-5535.

Sit tall

Ever feel small?

At 4-feet-11, Pam Starobin has. So, she created a handbag with a cushion attached to the inside in order to sit eye-to-eye with colleagues, theatergoers and fellow diners.

''It came out of my own struggle being petite,'' said Starobin, whose year-old business is based in Yonkers. ``These give me stature.''

The discreet leather purses add nearly three inches to your sitting height. Available in several colors for $129, through SittingTaller.com or 914-582-8027.

It takes a recycling center

Who knew? Sears is in the vanguard of the eco-movement.

The chain's Perfect Blazer and Perfect Pant are partly constructed of recycled plastic bottles -- 25 per set, to be exact. The garments, however, are not so perfectly priced, at $140 for the blazer, $75 for the pant. Then again, recycling never comes cheap. Consider that you'll save on dry cleaning; these puppies go straight into the wash.

Order through Sears, at 800-349-4358 or at Sears.com.
